The Frog Dance

This might be my all-time favorite thing. The Bina Hill kids learn lots of traditional dances, often imitating animals. This "Frog Dance" makes me happy every time I see it. It's meant to mimic the different types of frogs in the area, and the Macushi singing is talking about their calls and attributes (which is why you see them shaking their feet and all that). This particular day, the kids had been practicing a bunch of different songs and dances, and I'd been filming, but they didn't do this one. At the end, I was distraught. "What happened to the frog one? That's my favorite!"
So the teacher sighed and said "Okay, can someone do the frog dance for Miss?" and the four girls (Juliana, Shena, Elvie and Litisha, left to right) ran up on stage. "Okay, we need some guys." Nimrod was the only one to volunteer, but he'd never done it before. Actually, I don't think Litisha had either.
Whatever. These five bravely did a silly dance, on camera, just for my benefit, and now for yours. Enjoy! (PS they actually start the dance around the 22 second mark.)

Students (recap of 2017)

Before we start the new year with new kids, here are some of my favorite photos of the students from 2017.
